We have a tendency to get upset about other peoples words and actions because of our fear of the outcome.
Many people avoid tough conversations because they're scared of the outcome or don't have enough respect for others to be transparent.
Just within the past 48 hours I've had conversations have come up when I've heard a lot of disappointment in other peoples words and actions.
Someone walking off the job because the work is too hard.
Two people leaving their gear in a truck and ghosting the owner or manager with no call/no show for a week and no response to communication.
An important lesson I've had to learn over time and it took me years to understand is...
Control what you can control.
You can't control others actions or reactions to situations. You can go back and look at yourself and diagnose your own actions to why those situations occurred.
Getting mad or upset is only going to make you a worse leader, family member, friend, and spouse.
That's giving all of your power away and devalues your own self respect.
If you look at these situations and understand that those people did you a favor by exiting to open up new opportunities to bring the RIGHT people into your life and your organization then you stay on your path to freedom.
Your responsibility is to you, your actions, and reactions.
Forcing relationships and actions of others will only leave you lonely and frustrated.
When you focus on controlling what you can control you keep your power, your integrity, and build much better relationships with the right people.
When it comes to business coaching this is exactly what we help clients with to help them with their construction coaching.
The construction industry can be difficult to keep people because labor is intensive and hiring the right people are key.
Qualifying through the hiring process by using your core values and being patient with the understanding that people will show you their true colors over the first 4 months.
The best thing you can do is relinquish some of your control and build leadership capital with your employees that make them feel included, challenged, and surrounded by high performers.
When you control yourself first and set the example by living by your core values you set the stage for everyone else to follow.
